Fashion Influence over Teenagers

Fashion is a way of how people show their personalities by wearing clothes they love. Teenagers follow new fashion statements by wearing things according with all those trends on TV. For example, if a celebrity is wearing something on TV, no matter if it doesn't look good on you, you just buy it. Fashion has become a way of life for some people, but for those that follow that trends are getting absorbed by it and the consequences aren't good at all.

Models and actresses have been making a huge influence over teenage girls image. In these days, girls are skinnier than before. For instance, you can see celebrities losing too much weight to get roles on TV or in the big screen and they think that this loss of weight is like a new way of looking good and get a job. On the other hand, young girls think that the only way to belong to a society group is being popular, beautiful and skinnier as models are. This can be shown with the fact that they aren't eating well at all; you can almost see their bones through the clothes.

Fashion designers have a lot of influence in this image issue. Furthermore, they just design clothes for small and extremely thin bodies. You can notice this when you are trying to find clothes for you and you can't find the size of a T-shirt or jeans you want because everything it's too small. At the end of the road, fashion is like a colorful and fantastic world that is able to take you to darker sides and destroy your life little by little.

Internet addiction disorder

Internet addiction disorder refers to the problematic use of the Internet, including the various aspects of its technology, such as electronic mail (e-mail) and the World Wide Web. The reader should note that Internet addiction disorder is not listed in the mental health professional's handbook, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, text revision (2000), which is also called the DSM. Internet addiction has, however, been formally recognized as a disorder by the American Psychological Association.

In some respects, addictive use of the Internet resembles other so-called "process" addictions, in which a person is addicted to an activity or behavior (including gambling, shopping, or certain sexual behaviors) rather than a substance (mood-altering drugs, tobacco, food, etc.). Many people believe that spending large amounts of time on the Internet is a core feature of the disorder. The amount of time by itself, however, is not as important a factor as the ways in which the person's Internet use is interfering with their daily functioning. Use of the Internet may interfere with the person's social life, school work, or job-related tasks at work. In addition, cases have been reported of persons entering Internet chat rooms for people with serious illnesses or disorders, and pretending to be a patient with that disorder in order to get attention or sympathy. Treatment options often mirror those for other addictions. Although only a limited amount of research has been done on this disorder, the treatments that have been used appear to be effective.

No one knows what causes a person to be addicted to the Internet, but there are several factors that have been proposed as contributing to Internet addiction. One theory concerns the mood-altering potential of behaviors related to process addictions. Just as a person addicted to shopping may feel a "rush" or pleasurable change in mood from the series of actions related to a spending spree— checking one's credit cards, driving to the mall, going into one's favorite store, etc.— the person with an Internet addiction may feel a similar "rush" from booting up their computer and going to their favorite web sites. In other words, some researchers think that there are chemical changes that occur in the body when someone is engaging in an addictive behavior. Furthermore, from a biological standpoint, there may be a combination of genes that make a person more susceptible to addictive behaviors, just as researchers have located genes that affect a person's susceptibility to alcohol.

In addition to having features of a process addiction, Internet use might be reinforced by pleasurable thoughts and feelings that occur while the person is using the Internet. Although researchers in the field of addiction studies question the concept of an "addictive personality" as such, it is possible that someone who has one addiction may be prone to become addicted to other substances or activities, including Internet use. People with such other mental disorders or symptoms as depression, feelings of isolation, stress, or anxiety, may "self-medicate" by using the Internet in the same way that some people use alcohol or drugs of abuse to self-medicate the symptoms of their mental disorder.

People use to make some motions when they are sleeping. Nobody knows that when you sleep your brain doesn't stop and that makes a person unable to control some movements. Human beings experiment physical changes produced by dreams. The Rapid Eye Movement is the portion of sleep where people use to move their eyes.

This phenomenon was discovered by Nathaniel Kleitman and Eugene Aserinsky in the early 1950s. These two investigators were studying the slow, rolling eye movements in children while they were sleeping. For example, they found that their eyes had periods of motion and others where they were stopped. After that, they decided to repeat the same experiment with adults in a very systematic way because they can’t get some sleep when the lights are on. So, they used electrodes to record their eye movements using an electroencephalograph and they also recorded the brain waves from their subjects, the respiration and pulse.

The rapid eye movement is a normal event that occurs periodically when you are sleeping with some physiological changes. Those changes come from some sort of emotional disturbance possibly caused by a dream. This can be shown with the fact that the brain waves exhibited low voltages and fast activity, heart and pulse rates seemed to speed up in that experiment. On the other hand, the movements of our eyes are associated with a lack of body movement. For instance, we can notice a low muscle tone when this phenomenon is happening, where humans experience from 4 to 5 periods of REM sleep per night.

The Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon produced when the solar energy reradiated by the earth is trapped by atmospheric gases. The radioactively gases that absorb some of this energy in the atmosphere are called greenhouse gases. These are mainly water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxides, and ozone. Clorofluorocarbons and some photochemical gases, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and non-methane volatile organic compounds contribute also to the greenhouse effect. As a result, the earth stays warmer than it would otherwise be without the presence of the greenhouse gases. Atmospheric concentrations of these gases have been increasing as a result of a wide range of human activities and have been especially noticeable after the 1950’s. This increase is believed to alter the redistribution of energy in the atmosphere and, consequently, affect climate by altering some related natural phenomenon, such as increment of mean global temperature, changes in frequency and distribution of precipitation, circulation and weather patterns, and hydrological cycle, among others.

The possibility of a global climate change, as a result of anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, has become a major concern within the international scientific community in the last few years. This concern was the basis for the creation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) and for the process of international negotiations that led to the approval of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The convention was signed by 155 countries at the 1992 Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Advantages and disadvantages about robots

Robots as a new technological tool have advantages and disadvantages. They make an activity safer and easier. For instance, the operator just uses a computer to manufacture a product through a robot and it helps the operator to avoid dangerous situations because he is just controlling it. Likewise, a robot controls quality. This is shown by the following examples, robots are programmed to execute the same task all the time to make sure that the company is going to get the same product result and they are more accurate about measures than an operator. Moreover, a robot performs different tasks faster. For example, a robot can be programmed to perform task like packaging and welding allowing the operator to program the speed of its performance. On the other hand, it isn't self-sufficient. This is illustrated by the fact that a robot can't think by itself. You must send an order to be performed by it and the operator has to supervise its performance to guarantee that the process is going on the right track. Unfortunately, robots have limited movement and sight. This can be seen in these examples, robots can't move as easily as us. They have some degrees of freedom defined by axes to move their joints and also they are blind, so they need human supervision to ensure quality. Finally, a robot is a big investment. For instance, new technology costs a lot and robots are not an exception and they need maintenance once in a while and that involves changing old pieces for new ones too. As a result, robots are a very helpful invention for human beings, but they still have to go a long way to get better results in the future.

Peeping Tom Journalism

Peeping Tom Journalism has been changing from discreet to scandalous in the last years. This is one of the most used and polemic ways to make journalism in these days. It is used to capture the essence of the information without considering private or unnecessary details about important situations of public figures. At the moment, Peeping Tom Jounalism has turns people’s heads down with all those destructive scoops around the globe. Althought, they must show the public almost everything they find about important people, it’s clear that they are showing more than they should instead of saying good and valuable news. The saddest part of all this situation is that people is cheering up for this kind of damaging journalism to continue and they don’t realize that they are bringing bad consecuences to those who are being judged. Peeping Tom Journalists should put themselves on public figures shoes for a second and feel the pressure of being followed all the time. Celebrities can’t be inside a crystal ball all them time, they are human beings like us and they have the same right to live and make mistakes and learn from them. Definitely, this behavior is collaborating to take the entire world right to a self destruction. In other words, Peeping Tom Journalism is showing to the world the worst part of being in the spotlight.

Love Story

Love is unexplainable and is an energy bigger than ourselves. This is a very touching story and definitely shouldn't end like this. I don't understand why he left her at the end. It makes you cry so hard, it's like a soap opera. They should be together after all. Maybe the guy felt guilty about what happened and that's why he gave her his eyes. Also that was like a love proof to her, but he didn't know that he was in love in the beginning. It's curious because the thing that started everything between them (her eyes or the way she looked at him), makes them being apart at the end with that accident. Feelings like this one can be shown and felt in different ways, like he did. Besides, she was very open about what she felt for him and she thought that he wasn't giving the same in return (You can notice this when she was waiting for him in the rainy part of the video because she was specting to share the umbrella with him, like the other couples around). I think that he realized that he was in love with her when she was suffering with that accident. At the end, he showed to her that he did love her, but in a very discreet way. Love is a powerful feeling that lives inside each person and can be felt in many different ways.

To be a successful person you must knock down walls or strive a lot to reach a goal. It’s hard to make those wishes happen and when you stop fighting to conquer them, they just stay for the rest of your life as dreams (And you stop living). I’m a person with a lot of aspirations and expectations and I do whatever it takes to achieve them. I think that I’m on my way to make them all happen. For example, I finished school and now I’m too close to finish University. Although I will need more time to do all those things I would like to do, I’ll do my best!. A driven person is the one that takes its goals come true because just goes for it.

My name is Nathalie Chacón and I´m an Industrial Engineering student at Urbe. I have to say that I wasn´t sure about studying Industrial Engineering in the first place. I wanted to be a dentist. I tried to get an opportunity to study at Luz, but I couldn´t. Basically that´s why I moved from Ciudad Ojeda to Maracaibo, to study there. So, I decided to study something else instead of waiting for another chance. Things happen for a reason and I'm glad to be at Urbe studying engineering. It's very interesting.

Favorite TV Shows:

That 70's Show: That show is about people from 1970. It's pretty funny and shows what young people liked to do at that time like sex, smoking drugs and having a good time with friends.
Two and a Half men: The sense of humor of this tv show is pretty clever. It's about two single guys living in a house with a kid and they are trying to raise him and have dates at the same time.
Will and Grace: It's about two friends living in the same apartment, but the girl was in love of her friend and he is gay now. They also share experiences with other friends.
The Nanny: This tv show is old, but I think it's very funny. It's about a man that hired a babysitter to help him with his children and then the nanny wanted to marry him and she did it at the end.
Nip Tuck: This one is way too different from the others I like to watch. Nip Tuck has layers of different kinds of situations. You can find plastic surgery, killed people, sex, drama and love. I love this tv show, it makes me want to watch it all the time.

Favorite Music:

Coldplay: This is one of my favorite rock bands. The music is very relaxing and the lyrics of each song takes you to another place.
Celine Dion: She has one of the best voices in the music industry. She transmits energy when she sings, you can feel it all over your skin.
Nelly Furtado: Nelly's music stands out from other artists. Her music is fun, happy and different.
Madonna: Her music is fun and makes you want to dance. She's always reinventing herself in every work she does. She's an amazing performer and dancer.
Alanis Morrissette: I love her music when she started. Her lyrics were strong and honest.
